Woodrow 'Woody' Tesmer
COLBY -- Woodrow "Woody" Ervin Tesmer, 94, of Colby, died Thursday, March 8, 2007, at the Colby Retirement Community.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 12, 2007, at Community Funeral Home, Colby. Burial will be in Colby Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Mark Neumann will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Hauser, Bernard Wavrunek, Joe Hainzlsperger, Lavern Nosbisch, Angus Lamont, Norm Reineking, Rod Cook and Jim Schmidt.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2007, at Community Funeral Home, Colby, and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Woody was born Nov. 8, 1912, to John and Ida (Frome) Tesmer in the town of Colby. He graduated from Colby, Wis. High School, attended Valparaiso University and graduated from Stevens Point Teachers College. He taught junior high and instrumental music in Cornell and Kiel. In 1936, Woody and Margaret Lulloff were married at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. She died in 1969. He attended Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science and received his Funeral Director and Embalming License in 1938. He worked with F.W. Lulloff at the Lulloff Funeral Home and Lulloff Furniture Store in Colby until he became owner in 1957. Woody received his 50-year plaque from the Wisconsin Funeral Directors Association in 1988. He sold his business in 1974. On Dec. 19, 1970, Woody and Nina Grell were united in marriage at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. She died July 3, 2006.
He continued a life of participation in community affairs. He was a member of the Colby Chamber of Commerce and a charter member of the Colby Lions Club, where he held many offices. He was a member of the board of directors for Colby State Bank and later Mid Wisconsin Bank, from 1957 until his retirement. He was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church and served as president and treasurer. He served several terms on the Colby City Council and the Colby School Board, where he was president during the consolidation and building years.
Woody is survived by his children, Joyce and Skip Buscher of Denver, Colo., John and Dorris Tesmer of Glenwood Springs, Colo., and Jeanne and Don Dahlin of Vermillion, S.D., and their children, Sarah and Brian Jennings of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Mike and Marla Dahlin of Austin, Texas; two great-granddaughters, Kelly Dahlin and Cassidy Jennings; one stepdaughter, Pat and Harry (Woody's buddy) Untiedt of Colby; and one brother, Junior and Doris Tesmer of Stoughton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Margaret and Nina; and two sisters, Dora Hafer and LaVerne Behning.
