Green, Luke (1859? - 18 Oct. 1941)

 

George Green, a private serving with the Service Company, 128th Infantry, W. N. G at Camp Livingston, La., was called to the bedside of his aged father, Luke Green, arriving at the Indian Hospital at Tomah, Wis., the night before his death, which occurred on Saturday, October 18.

Mr. Green was about 82 years of age  (the 1950 census age was 55, an approximate birth yr. would be 1875 and 66 yrs. at the time of his death), having lived practically all his life in the Dells Dam community until a year ago when George went into the service.

 

He was married to Miss Emma Smoke, who preceded him in death in 1912. They had three children, two of whom have passed away. When George was five years of age he was taken to the Indian Mission at Wittenberg where he attended school until his father remarried and brought him back here to attend the local Indian school with his step sisters and brother.

 

Burial services for Mr. Green were held Tuesday at the John Mike home at Dells Dam, the Indian ceremonial being performed.

George Green, the son of  Emma Smoke and Luke Green was born 14 Dec 1902 in Osceola, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, USA   His natural mother died when he was just a year old.  Geroge was a Native American of Ho-Chunk tribe and grew up in Wittenberg and Neillsville, Wisconsin where he resided with close family relatives in the home of Johnny Mike.  During World War II he fought in United State Army with the 128th infantry in the Philippines and was missing in action 16 Nov 1942.  He was married to Bertha L. Ericson 25 Mar 1940 in Spokane, WA. She was a native of Minnesota.  They had a daughter, Ruth J., (Hopkins) who was born in 1945 after the end of the war.  They resided at 3011 W. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Thornhill-Geraghty's for George A. Green, 60, a Spokane resident nearly all his life.

The Rev. Richard C. Redfield will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmount.

Mr. Green, who was a salesman for Marshall-Wells for 40 years and for Jensen-Byrd Co. the last several years, died Tuesday in a Spokane hospital. He was a member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Bertha, and a daughter, Ruth J., at the home, W3011 Alice Ave (2024 photo).; three brothers, Fred D. Green of Spokane, Harold E. Green in New York, and Edwin Green of Auburn, California; an aunt, Mrs. E.B. Hill of Spokane; and several nieces and nephews.

The family suggests that memorial gifts may be given to the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, N2642 Cannon, Spokane, Wash.

Memorial service for Bertha Loraine Green Marcoux is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Marcoux died December 25 in a car accident in Boise. She was 79 (born 8 July 1913).

She was born in Minnesota and moved to Spokane in 1936.

She married George A. Green in 1940, and he worked for Marshall-Wells and Jensen-Byrd. He died in 1963.

She married Arthur P. Marcoux in 1966, and they made their home in Boise.

Mrs. Marcoux was a member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church and the Audubon Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband, who is in critical condition at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise; a daughter, Ruth Hopkins-Green of Hertfordshire, England; a brother, Robert L. Ericson of Denver; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association in Mrs. Marcoux's name.

Marine Private Dan R. Cameron, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Cameron of Route 1, Dorchester, has completed recruit training at the Marine Core Recruit Depot, San Diego.

During the 11-week training cycle, he learned the basics of battlefield survival. He was introduced to the typical daily routine that he will experience during his enlistment and studied the personal and professional standards traditionally taught to Marines.

He participated in active physical condition program and gained proficiency in a variety of skills, including first aid, rifle marksmanship and close order drill. Team work and self-discipline were emphasized throughout the training cycle.

He joined the Marine Corps in April 1977.

His now home for a 16 day leave. After December 4, 1977 he will be stationed at Oceana, Virginia.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Amacher, Abbotsford.

Ethel Konczak, Milwaukee, formerly of Colby, si among 30 students at Milwaukee Area Technical College inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, national junior college honorary fraternity.

Konczak is enrolled in the School Service Program. Students inducted into Phi Theta are enrolled full time in two-year associate degree programs and have a grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

Her fiancé graduated from Medford High School in 1974. He attended North Central Technical School in Wausau for two years, graduating with an accounting degree. He is presently employed as an accountant at Weather Shield Manufacturing, Inc. in Medford.

Enockson, Beverly Jean (28 March 1934 – 20 August 2024)

Beverly J. Enockson of Palatine, IL, formerly of Greenwood, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Dove Healthcare in Osseo.

Beverly Jean Reineke was born in the Town of Butler, Clark County, on March 28, 1934, to Arthur E. and LaVerne W. (Mayenschein) Reineke. She graduated from Greenwood High School at the top of her class in 1952, and graduated from beauty school in Eau Claire. She was a licensed beautician prior to becoming united in marriage to Joe K. Enockson on October 31, 1959, at the United Church of Christ in New Holstein. Beverly then became a homemaker and mother to one son, Linn. They lived in Milwaukee until moving to Palatine, IL in 1966, where they resided until Joe retired in January 1995. After Joe retired, they spent much of their time in the summer at the family cottage in Chetek. After Joe's passing on September 12, 2015, she spent summers visiting with her son in Osseo.

She had many interests, but especially enjoyed doing crossword puzzles every day, planting flowers, sewing, needlework, and made many beautiful quilts.

Beverly will be dearly missed by her son, Linn; one sister, Barbara Altmann; one brother, William (Sharon) Reineke; one sister-in-law, Donna Reineke; one brother-in-law, Bill Enockson; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Arthur and LaVerne Reineke; brothers: James and Ronald (Barbara) Reineke; and brothers-in-law, Ronald Altmann and .Ernst Enockson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Cuddie Funeral Home in Greenwood. Rev. Asafa Rajaofera will officiate, and burial will follow in the Greenwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Mohan, Patricia J. (21 October 1932 – 21 August 2024)

Patricia J. Mohan, age 91, of Green Bay, formerly of Colby, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at her home under the tender care of Aseracare Hospice.

Patricia was born on October 21, 1932, the daughter of William and Evelyn (Stanislawski) Geist in Cedar River, MI. She graduated from Colby High School and graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Oshkosh. Patricia worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield for 30 years as a nurse. On August 26, 1953, she was united in marriage to Raymond Mohan. After retirement, Patricia and Raymond moved to Conover. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1999. In 2004, she moved to Green Bay to be closer to her family.

Patricia enjoyed crocheting, watching the TV shows “Monk” and “The Closer” and watching all the wildlife that came into her yard. She was especially kind and generous. Most importantly, Patricia loved and cherished her family.

Patricia is survived by her eight daughter: Kathleen Wall, Paula Mohan, Cynthia Mohan, Teresa (Brian) Pinter, Suzanne (Kevin) Limberg, Carol (Dave) Mickelson, Lisa (Brian) Bach and Sandra Mohan; 18 grandchildren: Joe (Elizabeth) Wall, Robert Wall, Christopher (Jacqueline) Wall, Alyson (Jeremiah) Gagner, Jason Rosenbrook, Keith Rosenbrook, Ashlie (Jim) Hall, Michelle (Andy) Rice, Jonathon (Becky) Pinter, Brittanie (Ryan Maes) Pinter, Jenna Pinter, Jeannie (Kyle) Zdroik, Conrad Limberg, Katelyn Mickelson, Elizabeth Mickelson, Raymond Bach, Josephine Bach and Ruben Bach; eleven great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister, Annette Tanguay; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, William Geist II and a sister, Philamin Geist.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Saint Mary Help of Christian Parish in Colby. Rev. Arockia Amirtha Raj Stanislaus will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27 at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford and from 10:00 until time of service Wednesday at the church. Live stream will be available for those unable to attend on the Maurina Schilling Funeral Home Facebook page or after the service anytime on Facebook or the website.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials are preferred to the Knights of Columbus or the Cancer Society.
