Otto J. Schecklman

Otto J. Schecklman, 87, of Marshfield died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, at Continental Manor in Abbotsford, Wis.

A Mass of Christian burial officiated by the Rev. Charles D. Stoetzel will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, at St. John's Catholic Church. Suzanne Golden will be the organist, along with St. John's Church Funeral Choir. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, with Otto's grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Visitations will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Rembs/Kundinger Funeral Home and again from 9 a.m. until time of the services Friday at the funeral home. There will be a parish prayer service at 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Otto was born May 6, 1918, in Loyal to Joseph and Dora (Wolfe) Schecklman. He attended schools in Loyal and Owen areas. Otto and Carol E. Christensen were married May 9, 1955, in the Little Brown Church of Nashua, Iowa.

He farmed in Owen, Abbotsford and Marshfield areas until 1949, then he became employed by Northern Auto Supply and Distributors Warehouse, retiring in 1984. Otto enjoyed ballgames, playing cards, square dancing, gardening and traveling with Carol during their retirement years. Otto was respected and dearly loved by his wife and children.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Carol; seven children, Bonnie (Terry) Wanta of Fitchburg, Jane (Brian) Abel of Orlando, Fla., John (Angie) Schecklman and Linda (David) Anderson, both of Marshfield, Mary Foltz of Stevens Point, David (Pam) Schecklman of Rochester, Minn., and Scott Schecklman of Vancouver, Wash. He is further survived by 19 grandchildren, Josh (Charity) Wanta, Ben (Patty) Wanta, Rebekah, Jesse, Paul, Michael and Rachel Wanta, Sammy-Lee and Teddy-Jo Abel, Naomi, Sophia, and Esther Schecklman, Jacob, Isaac and Baylee Kolb, Ben Anderson, Owen Foltz and Hannah and Matthew Schecklman; one great-granddaughter, Abigail Wanta; and one brother, Edwin Schecklman of Pleasant Prairie.

Otto was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Louie.
