Fischer, Duane D. (6 Oct. 1925 - 14 Aug. 2005)

Duane D. Fischer, age 79, of Eau Claire died Sunday, August 14, 2005, at the Clairemont Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Duane was born on October 6, 1925, to the late Elwood and Esther (Hardrath) Fischer in Owen, Wis. He graduated from Owen High School and UW-Eau Claire, and received his doctorate from UW-Madison. On December 20, 1958, he married Alice Weinkauf at First Methodist Church in Wausau. He proudly served our country in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Duane was a professor of history at UW-Eau Claire from 1966 until his retirement in 1990. He was a lifelong reader and an avid fan of Cavaliers baseball and Blugolds basketball. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; children, Kurt (Lesley) Fischer of Hutchinson, Minn., Mary (Frank) Christ of Miami, Fla., and Michael Fischer of Eau Claire; grandson, Maxwell Fischer; granddaughter, Zoe Fischer; sister, Beverly Kallberg of Owen; brother, Glenn Fischer of Withee; numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 19, 2005, at Riverside Cemetery in Withee with the Reverend Tom Myhre officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to UW-Eau Claire Foundation, Children's Service Society of Wisconsin or donor's choice.

Evergreen Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.
