Garbrecht, Amelia (9 OCT 1848 - 5 APR 1932)
Dorchester (Clark Co., Wis.) friends will be saddened to learn of the death of Mrs. Fred Garbrecht, who passed away Tuesday, April 5th, 1932, at the home of her son, William, at Abbotsford at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 26 days. She had been ailing for several years but a recent illness of only a few weeks caused her death.
Funeral services are being held this (Friday) afternoon at the Christ Ev. Lutheran Church at Abbotsford, Rev. J. Brandt conducting, with interment in the Dorchester Memorial Cemetery. Fred Kramer, Charles Prestin, Sam Trevalle, Frank Benz, F. Meske and Frank Terrio are acting as pallbearers.
Amelia Arndt was born Oct. 9, 1848, in Poldka, Prussia, where she spent her early girl and womanhood, coming to the United States in 1872 to settle in southern Wisconsin. In 1877 she was united in marriage to Fred Garbrecht at Readfield, Waupaca County. They settled at Oshkosh, where they lived for several years before moving to Fremont. In 1889 they moved to Dorchester where they lived for more than 20 years, first on the Wm. Schafer farm, now owned by Anslem Schmid and later on their farm one mile east of the village.
Eight children were born to this union, William Abbotsford; Mrs. Frank Fassbender, Mrs. Robert Kelly, Mrs. Horace Revore and Miss Marie, all of Minneapolis;, Mrs. James Skea, Hibbing, Minn.; and Mrs. Mathew Luther, Los Angeles, Calif. A stepson, Herman of Oshkosh, completed the family.
In 1910 Mr. Garbrecht passed away and the following year Mrs. Garbrecht left to spend her time with her children in North Dakota and Minnesota. In 1912 she returned to Abbotsford, where she has since lived with her son, William
To all who knew her, Mrs. Garbrecht endeared herself by her kind, winning manner. She leaves a host of friends who shall greatly miss her as will her loved ones.
Besides her children she leaves one sister, Mrs. E. DuBois, Chicago; one brother, August Arndt, Weyauwega, 15 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. All the children, save Mrs. Luther, were present for the funeral services.
The many friends of the family join the Clarion in offering sincere and beartfelt sympathy to the mourning ones.
