Decker, Catherine (2 NOV 1841 - 24 NOV 1932)
Dorchester (Clark Co., Wis.) friends were saddened to learn of the death of Mrs. Catherine Decker, who passed away last Thursday noon, Nov. 24, 1932, at the home of her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Engel. Mrs. Decker had been ill since June and had remained in bed the past eight weeks. Death was due mainly to old age. Funeral services were held Monday morning at 10 o’clock at the St. Louis Catholic Church with Rev. Paul Pitzenberger officiating. Interment took place in the Memorial Cemetery with six grandsons, August, Nick and George Engel, George and Frank Decker, and Ray Leisen, acting as pallbearers.
Catherine Aschun was born Nov. 2, 1841 in Nobresar, Belgium and was 91 years and 22 days old at time of death. She grew up in her native home and in 1865 was united in marriage to John Peter Decker. Seven children were born to this union, one child dying in infancy and a son, George, who preceded his mother in death four years ago. Mr. Decker passed away in 1884 and while living in Belgium. In April 1887 Mrs. Decker and her family came to the United States and settled at Appleton, where she remained until 1901, when she came here to live with the Engels.
She leaves to mourn her loss three daughters, Mrs. John Leisen, nee Mary, Mrs. Frank Engel, nee Lottie, and Mrs. Richard Styvenberg, nee Rose, and two sons, Peter and John. She also leaves 31 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Decker was a devout member of the Catholic Church and number many friends among the parishioners. Since coming here she has made a host of friends who have greatly enjoyed her company and who will miss her from the circle. She has gone to a just reward after her many years of toil and helpfulness in this life. The many friends join us in offering sincerest sympathy to the mourning ones.
Out of town relatives attending the services were John Decker, International Falls, Minn., Mrs. John Leisen, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Leisen, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Leisen, Mrs. Frank Reimer and Miss Lottie Leisen, all of Appleton, Mr. and Mrs. George Decker and family of Medford, Mrs. Kathryn Patterson and August Engel of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Engel of wis.
