Sherwood, Charles Montgomery (6 June 1872 - 17 Oct. 1939)
A message to A. W. Short about 4:30 Tuesday afternoon, brought news of the sudden death of Chas. Sherwood at his home in Fairchild. Mr. Sherwood had been busy during the day getting his home and yard ready for winter and it is thought the extra exertion brought the heart attack which caused his sudden death.
Mr. Sherwood is survived by his wife and one son, Donald, and one sister, who resides in New York State. He was past 70 years of age. With the exception of seven or eight years spent at Ettrick as manager of the short line railroad, Fairchild had been the home of Mr. Sherwood since he was a young man. He was employed in the offices of the Fairchild & Northeastern railway for many years and until that line ceased to exist. Since returning from Ettrick he has been retired.

Charles Montgomery Sherwood, well known and highly respected citizen of Fairchild, died suddenly at his home in that village Tuesday, Oct. 17, 1939. He had been about the home as usual all day, made three trips to the village, visited about the neighborhood, and was raking the autumn leaves when the end came.
Mr. Sherwood was born at Apalachin, New York, June 6, 1872. He received his education in the public schools, taught some time after graduating from high school, and then attended college at Owego, New York.
He came to Fairchild in 1895, and was employed in the office of the N. C. Foster Lumber Co. When the Fairchild & Northeastern railroad was built they made him agent; later auditor and traffic manager, finally general manager. In April, 1929, he took charge of the Ettrick Railroad, remaining until 1937, when he returned to Fairchild, and has spent these last months in purchasing and improving his fine home property.
On September 17, 1898, he was married to Miss Sadie P. Campbell. To this union two children were born: William, who passed away at the age of ten years, and Donald M., now residing in Eau Claire.
He leaves his widow; his son Donald, three grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Grace Jewett, of Apalachin, N. Y., besides other relatives and friends.
