Hanawalt, Mary Edna (13 Jul. 1860 - 22 Jun. 1947)

Mrs. Mary E. Hanawalt, 86, who for the past 14 years made her home in Marshfield with her daughter, Miss Elizabeth Hanawalt, 509A S. Cedar Street, died there, at 2:29 p.m. Sunday, the result of old age complications.

The body lay in state at the Hanson Funeral Home, where the Rev. Raymond J. Fleming of the First Methodist Church conducted funeral rites Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock. From here the body will be taken to Waushara County for internment in the Crystal Lake cemetery.

Mrs. Hanawalt, the former Mary Edna Redner, was born at Berlin, Wis., July 13, 1860, and was married Aug. 6, 1887, at Grafton, N.D., to George S. Hanawalt, who died Jan. 9, 1903.

Mrs. Hanawalt spent her early life at Berlin, then went to Minto, N. Dakota to teach school. In 1898 she moved to Berlin and in the fall of 1900 to a farm in Unity.

Fourteen years ago she moved to Marshfield. While living at Unity, she served as school clerk in the Town of Brighton, and also was a member of the First Methodist Church and the Beaver Lodge.

Two sons, George K. Hanawalt, Kansas City, Mo., and Ross H. Hanawalt, Boylestown, Ohio, and two daughters, Mrs. Fred (Madge) Bennett, Unity, and Miss Elizabeth, Marshfield, survive. A daughter, Bertha C., died Nov. 26, 1910, and a son, James R., Feb. 15, 1920. Four half brothers and her parents also preceded her in death.

There are 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
