Langworthy, Ethel (Marriage - 7 Sept. 1940)

In a candle-light service on Saturday, Sept. 7, the Methodist church in Augusta was the scene of a very pretty and impressive early fall wedding when Miss Ethel Langworthy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Langworthy, Humbird, became the bride of Mr. Raymond Gehres, of Osseo, son of Mrs. Gehres, Ft. Wayne, Ind. The single ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. J. T. Agema, pastor of the church.

The bride entered on the arm of her father, who gave her in marriage. The bridal chorus from Lohengrin for the processional and Mendelssohn’s wedding march for the recessional were played by Mrs. Gordon Strader. A solo, "When Song is Sweet," was sung by an uncle of the bride, Dr. H. P. Langworthy, accompanied by Mrs. H. P. Langworthy.

The bride wore a white floor length dress of tulle over taffeta, a finger tip veil and carried an arm bouquet, of white gladiolus, yellow rose and gypsophelia, tied with tulle. She was attended by Mrs. Earl Langworthy, Jr., as matron of honor and Miss Eva Gehres, sister of the groom as bridesmaid, both of whom wore floor length gowns of blue net and shoulder bouquets of yellow gladiolus.

The groom was attended by Earl Langworthy, Jr., brother of the bride, and Ozzie Insterdford, Walter Gilbert and Nory LaBarron were the ushers.

The groom and his attendants wore dark suits and boutonnieres of yellow roses.

Little Nanette Olson, cousin of the bride, was flower girl. She was attired in a floor length dress of yellow organdy, with hoopskirt and carried a blue basket of yellow flowers.

After the ceremony the bridal party drove to the farm home of the bride’s parents were a reception was held.

The beautiful three tier wedding cake was made and decorated by the bride’s aunt, Mrs. H. P. Langworthy, assisted by Mrs. H. Van Gorden.

In the evening a dance was held at Osseo village hall, after which the happy couple left on a honeymoon trip to northern Wisconsin and Ray, N. Dak. After Sept. 15th, they will begin housekeeping at Osseo in the home which the groom has furnished and waiting for his bride.

Prenuptials were a shower given by Mrs. Earl Langworthy, Jr. Sept. 5th, assisted by Mrs. Iffland and Mrs. Houghton at the bride’s home. And on Sept. 1st, a shower was given at the home of Miss Luetta Olson, in Osseo, honor of Miss Langworthy, bride-to-be.
