Mayer, Helen (Marriage - 19 Oct. 1940)
A very pretty wedding was solemnized at St. Joseph’s Church, Fairview, on Saturday, Oct. 19, when Miss Helen Mayer, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Mayer, and Mr. George E. Dimmitt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. E. Dimmitt, were united in holy wedlock. The Rev. J. J. Sheridan officiated in the double ring ceremony.
The bride proceeded to the candle lit altar on the arm of her father, who gave her in marriage. The groom and his attendants were waiting for them at the altar. The bride was attired in a colonial gown of brocaded stain. Her cathedral length veil was held in place by a crown of seed pearls and she carried an arm bouquet of calla lilies.
The bride’s maid, Miss France Dimmitt, sister of the groom, was gowned in Eleanor blue taffeta and carried a colonial bouquet of roses and pompoms in rainbow colors. The maid of honor, Miss Florence Zimmerman, niece of the bride, was gowned in Persian rose taffeta and likewise carried a bouquet of roses and pompoms. The flower girl, Virginia Zimmerman, another niece of the bride, wore an aqua net over taffeta. She carried a basket of mixed pompoms.
The groom wore a suit of teal blue and his attendants, Mr. Robert Matti and Mr. Gordon Boullion, wore suits of brown and blue respectively, with carnations on the lapels of their coats.
The groom’s mother wore a wine crepe and had a corsage of carnations and regal lilies.
The choir consisted of Miss Kathleen Doyle, organist, Mrs. Adolph Bergman, and Mrs. Nick Schlicter.
After the ceremony a wedding reception was held at the bride’s home, which was decorated in pink and white, to about sixty-five relatives and friends.
Out of town guests were: Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Gerard, Belleville; Miss Beatrice Knecht and Miss Marie Voves, St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Mayer, Eau Claire; Mrs. Albert Kaufman and daughter Betty and Mrs. Kathryn Daniels, Augusta; Miss Frances Dimmitt, Baraboo.
In the evening the happy young couple gave a dancing party at the town hall to their many friends. They left Sunday for a week’s honeymoon in Milwaukee, where the groom has employment.
Pre-nuptial event was a shower, held at the home of the groom’s mother, given by the young ladies of Fairview, a week previous to the wedding. Many beautiful gifts were received by the bride at the shower and at the wedding.
