Murphy, Elsie (1867 - 28 Nov. 1947)
Mrs. R. T. Vaughan received word of the death of her sister, Mrs. Elsie Murphy of Bellingham, Washington, Nov. 28, age 80 years. Mrs. Murphy, nee Elsie Darling, was one of Unity’s pioneers coming from Waupaca with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Darling at the age of 6 years in 1872. She received her education in the old school house on Creeds Hill and was the first teacher to occupy the primary annex on that building. She taught several years in the rural schools of Marathon County and in the city of Wausau. In 1896 she married Thomas Murphy and went to Morton, Minn. to live. Here the family of four sons and two daughters was born. They moved to Montana and lived on a ranch near Butte. Mr. Murphy died in 1930 and shortly afterward the family moved to Bellingham, Washington.
Four sons and their families are left to mourn her death, George, Keith and Chase of Bellingham and Thomas Henry of Salt Lake City, also three grandchildren who made their home with her after the death of their mother, Mrs. Margaret Krofft, in 1942. They are Thomas McInter, Leo Lee McInter and Joan McGee.
Three sisters survive her, Mrs. Frances Bucholtz of Florence, Mont., age 87; Miss Ella Darling of Unity, age 83; and Mrs. Ralph Vaughan also of Unity.
