Dunn, Halbert "Hallie" LeRoy (6 Dec. 1883 - 31 Dec. 1933)

Halbert LeRoy Dunn passed away at his home in Alma Center last Sunday morning, after a long illness, and a most valiant fight against the inevitable death. He was a patient sufferer, and was able to be about his home almost until the last day.

Mr. Dunn lived his entire span of life on the farm in Garden Valley, where he was born Dec. 6th, 1883, excepting the past few weeks which he lived in Alma Center. He was the youngest son of Phillip Erastus and Maria Duncanson Dunn, his father settling in the town of Garden Valley in 1855. He was united in marriage with Miss Effie Grush, Sept. 20, 1903, and after his parents moved to Alma Center two years later, took entire charge of the farming operations, which he has handled most successfully. He was interested in dairying and for many years was secretary and manager of the Brookside Cheese factory, and that institution, also was a success under his management. He served his town in an official capacity for several years.

Mr. Dunn was one of a family of five children, one brother, Oliver E. Dunn, of Superior, survives him, and who, today, with the bereaved wife, mourns his passing to the Great Beyond.

"Hallie" as he was known to all, possessed the happy faculty of making a friends of everyone with whom he came in contact, and Tuesday afternoon, when the funeral services were held at the M. E. Church in Alma Center, score after score filed past the casket for a last look upon the face of one who had been near to them. Rev. Vaughan officiated at the service at the home, and John Gruber of Black River Falls gave the Masonic burial service at the church and at the grave in Alma Center Cemetery.

A quartet composed of Mrs. Waters, Mrs. Smith, R. A. Crevistion, and W. F. Hein, sang, "Someday we’ll Understand," and "Beautiful Isle," Miss Simons accompanist.

Deceased was a member of Humbird Lodge No. 191., F. & A. M., and the chapter and commandery at Neillsville, Wis. He attained the age of 50 years and 25 days.
