Baker, John Augustus (15 June 1854 - 21 Jan. 1934)
James A. Baker
The funeral of John Augustus Baker, early settler of the town of Garden Valley, was conducted at Alma Center Tuesday afternoon by Rev. G. W. Vaughan, and burial was in the Cemetery near Hixton. Mr. Baker was born in Pennsylvania June 15, 1854, and passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alvin Helwig, in Alma Center, last Sunday night, at the age of 79 years, 7 months and 6 days. His early days were spent at Waukesha and North Prairie. He was united in marriage soon after settling in Garden Valley to Miss Ida Amelia Andrews, a daughter of the late John Andrews. Mrs. Baker died twenty-six years ago, and since then he has lived the greater part of the time with his daughter. A son, John, of Jamestown, N. D., and one daughter, Mrs. Helwig, of Alma Center, survive. A son, Charles, died in infancy.
