Local Happenings

W. F. Hein is teaching a brand new automobile the stops and turns of rural route number one.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Ward and Mel Ward, of Winona, were visitors one day recently with their cousins, Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Simons and Miss Edith Simons.

Geraldine Smith entertained sixteen girls last week Wednesday afternoon, in honor of Neva Crandell’s 16th birthday.

M. C. Dignin and family, of Neillsville, spent Sunday and Monday at the homes of his brother, Jerome, and sister, Mrs. R. A. Hart.

Raymond Stuve has been under the doctor’s care for a carbuncle in his side.

Mrs. W. E. Campbell was taken ill while at work at the factory Saturday, and was taken to her home.

Earl Davis, of Marengo, and Philo Frink, of Rockford, Ill., who have been spending a couple of weeks or more with their cousin, Mrs. Henry Rundle, returned to their homes Monday.

C. J. Noyes returned from the hospital Tuesday, and is convalescing from the operation.

J. W. Lawrence and family enjoyed a visit the first of the week from his sister, Mrs. Anna Bacchus and niece, Miss Isabel Lawrence, both of Springfield, Ill. They arrived Monday, and departed Wednesday morning for Madison to spend a day with Miss Lawrence’s brother, before returning to their home. It has been more than fifty years since the brother and sister have been together and their brief visit was a most enjoyable one. Tuesday the ladies, with Mr. Lawrence, drove to Chippewa Falls and visited an old friend from Manitowoc County, Miss Ida Eatoff at the Rutledge home. They also called on Mrs. Florence Andrews, at the home.

Mrs. Brandstedter and Miss Zella have gone to Ladysmith to remain a few days with her sister, Mrs. Robelia. The latter has about recovered from the car accident of a number of months ago.

Ramona Holman and Louise Aebersold spent last weekend at La Crosse.

A bit of elation has come to ye editor in a membership certificate in the National Geographic society of Washington, D. C.

Mrs. Folwer and Miss Alice and Mrs. Brandstedter and Miss Zella expect to leave next Saturday for a trip to the Chicago fair. On their return they will drive a new car from Janesville, for Miss Ellen Raether, who will take it to Idaho for use in her work with the health department.

James Cole has on his farm three fine fields of timothy hay. Hay is what used to be grown in this section by farmers to feed to horses and cattle. No doubt some will be driving out to the farm to see the hay - but Mr. Cole is not going to let it stand around loose very long.

Bob Finnegan returned to St. Paul Friday after spending a part of the week at home. Bob is driving a truck in St. Paul.

While in Minneapolis last weekend with his son Chester and family, C. F. Willman run onto two old school friends who had not see for many years. The meeting was a happy one for the old schoolmates.

E. W. Johnson returned Saturday night from Black River Falls, where he was engaged as extra foreman on the section. The section crew here is reduced to two men, laying off Bigelow and Lund.

Peter Repplinger, who went to the state of Washington twenty-seven years ago, spent the last of the week with his brothers and other relatives and old friends hereabouts. Mr. Repplinger now resides at Cottage Grove, Ore., where he has lived for the past six years, after being at Enterprise, in eastern Oregron for sometime. He was accompanied by a friend. On their trip they had stopped at Joplin, Mo., and Nauvoo, Ill., and had taken in the big fair. They left here Saturday morning, expecting to make several stops on the way, and arrive home the last of the week.
