Houghton, Charles F. (83rd - 26th Aug. 1934)
August 26th, Charles F. Houghton, one of the very few remaining of the pioneer settlers of this section, celebrated his 83rd birthday. Mrs. E. W. Grush, with whom Mr. Houghton resides, prepared a fine banquet for the event, and numerous friends called at the farm during the day to extend congratulations to the old neighbor. Mr. Houghton, although afflicted, is quite well, and one of the great pleasures of his declining years is to live on the farm which his father, Sidney Houghton, homesteaded nearly seventy years ago, and which has been his home for a life-time. Mr. Houghton was born in Big Foot Prairie, Ill., and came to Houghtonburg by ox team in the Houghton migration. In the beginning of the ‘70s, he clerked in the store now owned by F. A. Tritsch, then run, we believe by E. A. Freeman.
