Local Happenings
Fireworks galore at Tritsch’s.
Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Barkley and son, of Black River Falls, spent Sunday with relatives here.
During the summer months, when our folks have visits from relatives and friends from away, the items are always welcome in these columns.
Mr. and Mrs. Ira Sherwin, of Black River Falls, spent Sunday and Monday with Mrs. Sherwin’s father, Henry Stallard, and with their daughters and families, Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Krueger.
The board of review completed its work Tuesday at noon. The first assessment made by the new assessor, Wm. Aebersold, was reported a satisfactory one.
In the list of those graduating from the state university this week with special honors, is the name of Bernard J. Babler. He is a former Humbirdite, youngest son of Mrs. Mary Babler. Bernard completed the course of the letters and science, and expects to take a post graduate course in chemistry.
W. E. Campbell was reported seriously ill the last of the week.
Mr. and Mrs. Cullen Dignin and family, of Neillsville, visited relatives here Sunday, Mrs. J. Dignin returned with them for a week’s visit.
Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Fish, of Woodstock, Ill., Miss Mary Newman, of Baraboo, and Mrs. R. E. Jolin, of Rice Lake, were guests at the Hale home last Friday.
Misses Ramona Holman and June Duerkop accompanied some friends from Alma on "The Capital" steamboat excursion from Wabasha to Winona last week, returning Thursday evening.
The Springbrook cheese factory is getting new paint inside and out. Leon Phillips and Fred Laffe are doing the work.
Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Tritsch drove to Silver Birch resort Sunday, where they attended the annual I. G. A. picnic.
Mrs. Christine Repplinger came the last of the week for a visit at the home of her brother, John Michael.
Rev. J. M. Michael arrived home Monday from Hudson, Ind., for a short stay.
Miss Caryl Short leaves the last of the week for Madison to attend the summer session of the state university.
Miss Mildred Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Smith of River Falls, was united in marriage to Walter Peterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Axel Peterson of Baldwin, Wednesday afternoon, June 5, at the Lutheran Church at Prescott. They will reside on a farm at Beldenville.
L. Fernholz, manager of the farmers’ co-operative shipping association, was a caller at this office Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Fethke and daughter Dorothy, of Osseo, visited at F. A. Tristch’s Friday.
Edmund Noyes came from Eau Claire Sunday to spent the day with his mother, Mrs. Noyes is recovering from the infection in her knee, and is able to be about the store part of the time.
Last Sunday the Humbird ball team defeated the Springfield Cubs 5 to 9. This team is the champion of the league, and this was their first defeat in four games. Next Sunday, June 30th, Humbird plays Taylor on the home diamond at Dimmitt’s field.
Irving Colburn, wife and son, of Chicago, spent from Thursday until Monday with Mrs. Colburn’s m other, Mrs. Theiler, and other relatives here. They also visited her sister, Mrs. J. E. Tubbs, and family in Eau Claire.
R. A. Chambers and family arrived from Ft. Madison, Iowa, last Saturday for a week’s visit at the homes of his parents and sisters.
Legion Notice - the past will hold a special meeting at the post hall on Monday evening, July 1st, for election of officers. Lunch will follow the meeting.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Rorabeck, of Augusta, spent Wednesday in our berg.
Mr. and Mrs. Pearl Pickett were weekend visitors at Chetek.
County Trunk Highway F to Nettleton’s Corners is to have some good work done on it this summer. Some new culverts will be put in the road graded and graveled.
Mark Russell and wife were down from Cadott Sunday.
Oyster Shells, 79 cents per bag, at Tritsch’s Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hart drove over from Mondovi Wednesday to spend the afternoon.
County Agent Landry, has a weed meeting scheduled to be held at Loyal next Tuesday, at 1:30 in the afternoon. All weed commissioners are expected to attend. Any farmers finding unknown weeks on his place from shipped in feed should bring a sample, including the root, to the meeting. This is important to prevent the spread of any noxious weed imported.
