Brandt, John & Antje (Gold - 7 APR 1883)

On Sunday afternoon a large crowd of friends and relatives gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Brandt, 10 miles southwest of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), to join in celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. A local quartet opened the festivities by singing a number of old time songs. Thereupon an address was given by the Rev. F. Sprengler, Lutheran pastor from Thorp, and gifts were presented to the aged, but healthy and happy couple. After the quartet had rendered a few more old time songs, a plate lunch was served.

Among the guests were eight of their nine sons, of whom two came from Montana and two from Nebraska. Another son residing in Pennsylvania could not be present because of illness in his family. The other four sons live in Wisconsin.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Brandt were born in Europe. John is the son of Fred and Elizabeth nee Brandt. He was born at Ferenbruch, Germany, on June 24, 1859. Mrs. Brandt, Antje Meints Eden, is the daughter of Meint Onnen Eden and Taalke Harms, nee Ocken. She was born Dec. 8th, 1859 at Groszefehn, East Frisia, Germany. They were married in Bargstedt, Germany, April 7, 1883 by the Rev. Wiedemann. Soon after their marriage they migrated to America. They came to Wisconsin where they have lived ever since.
