Hi, I am researching our ancestry. I know my Great great Grandfather moved to London from Blackburn Lancashire, England in the 1880s. Sharratt is a pretty unusual name even in England . 3 decades ago I heard a theory that it might have been a Sephardic Jewish name , which came into England with William the Conqueror in 1066. William brought Jewish accountants with him from Europe. Many of my family members past and present have a Jewish look . Since Jews were suppressed or exiled from England between the 13th century and the 17th century , it might be unlikely that many would hold on to their culture and religion . It was too dangerous . Still I am interested to know if there are any Sharratts out there who know they have Sharratt relatives who are / were Jews. Sincerely , Liz in New Jersey . Posting April 27th 2007
