Helmke, William H. (15 Sept. 1879 - 9 Sept. 1948)

Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Unity, Wis. for William H. Helmke, 68, who died on Tuesday at Marinette’s Luther Hospital. The Rev. J. A. Olson was officiating clergyman and burial was made in Hillside cemetery.

Pallbearers were Clarence Sandgren, Stratford; George Miller, Jr., Unity; Otto Helmke Jr., Wisconsin Rapids; and August and William Helmke and Lester Schalow, all of Stratford.

Flowers were carried by Mrs. Clarence Sandgren, Mrs. Otto Helmke, Mrs. George Miller Jr., and Mrs. Lester Schalow.

"Old Rugged Cross" and "Jesus Will Take Care of You," were sung by the choir during the services.

Friends and relatives from out of town at the funeral included Mr. and Mrs. Otto Helmke, Sr., Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Helmke, Park Falls; Mr. and Mrs. George Muir, Blue Island, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. George Miller Sr., Unity; Mr. and Mrs. George Miller Jr., Unity; Mr. and Mrs. Otto Helmke Jr., Wisconsin Rapids; Mrs. Howard Felton, Neenah; Mr. and Mrs. Chris Kindler, Kaukauna; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Helmke, Neenah; Mr. and Mrs. John Helmke, Chilton; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Helmke, Plymouth; Mrs. Lloyd Romenesko, Kaukauna; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Rogers, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. August Helmke, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Apitz, Sherwood; and Mrs. Levi Bauman, Appleton.

William Helmke was born September 15, 1879 in the Town of Woodville, Calumet County, and was married on August 27, 1907, to Ida Schuette at Stratford. His wife died in January 1908.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Geo. Muir, Blue Island, Illinois; and Mrs. George Miller, Unity, and two brothers, Henry Helmke, Park Falls, and Otto Helmke, Marshfield. Two brothers, August and John, preceded him in death.
