Murphy, Bernard R. #3 (20 AUG 1935 - 12 APR 2007)

Bernard R. Murphy, 71, Christie, died on Thursday, April 12, 2007, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, April 16, at St. John’s Evangelical Church, Neillsville, Wis. The Rev. Timothy Biebert officiated. Music was provided by Sharon Nemitz, organist, and St. John’s School Choir. Interment was in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Casket bearers were Ronnie Kurasz, Wally Ormond, Chuck Johnson, Craig Kurasz, Rick Murphy, Jonathon Anding and Mike Peltier.

Bernard Ralph Murphy was born on Aug. 30, 1935, at the home farm in the town of Weston, to Frank and Lucille (nee Macknick) Murphy. He attended grade school north of Christie at the Mound School. He attended high school in Greenwood, graduating in 1952. He married Rosemary Kurasz on June 20, 1959, in Neillsville, Wis. He took over the home farm in 1960 and together they farmed for 40-plus years During this time, he worked for the DHIA for 10 years. For the last 15 years, he worked for the Neillsville school system. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Neillsville, Wis. He was an avid hunter and was an honorary member of the Dairyland Fox and Coon Hunters Club. He was a member of the Wisconsin Bear Hunters Association and was featured in their magazine two years ago as an "Ironclad Hunter." He always made it to opening weekend of bear hunting. He also enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family and friends and especially cherished his wife, children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Rosemary; four children: Larry (Carrie) Murphy, Butternut, David Murphy, Greenwood, Donna (David) Anding, Greenwood, and Alan (Jo) Murphy, Butternut; seven grandchildren: Jonathon, Jill, Drew and Ben Anding, Lacey and Taylor Murphy and Luke Murphy; step grandchildren: Matt and Dennis Anding, Jaci Kinnear, Craig, Neil and Ben Barylski; and a step-great grandchild, Alyssa Anding. He is further survived by three sisters: Gertrude Johnson, Neillsville, and Frances Ormond, Neillsville, and Marjorie Kurasz, DuBois, Wyo.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and two brothers, Arthur Murphy and Harold Murphy.

The Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, assisted the family with arrangements.
