Sigrid Brecke (June 16, 1918 - May 7, 2007)

DORCHESTER -- Sigrid Brecke, 88, of Dorchester, died Monday, May 7, 2007, at Our House Senior Living under the care of Hope Hospice and Palliative Care.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2007, at Maurina Funeral Home, Abbotsford, Wis. Burial will be in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Dennis Govier will officiate. Pallbearers will be Scott and Thor Thompson, Edward Brecke III, Dale and Dean Prochnow, Chad Erickson, Jason and Rory Brecke, Jesse Brecke, and Kevin and Jared Stieber.

Visitation will be from noon until time of services at the funeral home.

Sigrid was born June 16, 1918, in the town of Hoard, Owen, to Hjalmer and Marie Heikkinen. Sigrid and Edward Brecke Sr. were united in marriage Sept. 6, 1937. He died June 1, 1993. They started the Brecke Mink Ranch and farmed in the town of Holton. She cooked and cleaned for the hired help and was a hard worker, making homemade meals. She also did bookkeeping for the mink ranch and farm. They moved to their home at Dorchester in 1981.

Sigrid is survived by her children, Edward (Ann) Brecke Jr. of Stetsonville, Arla (Dale) Thompson of Monroe, Bonnie (Dale) Prochnow of Medford, Marlene (Doug) Erickson of Hinckley, Minn., Gerald (Patti) Brecke of Stetsonville, Kathy Brecke of Dorchester, and Laurie (Peter) Stieber of Cedar Grove; 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Arvid and Toivo; and three sisters, Jane, Cecelia and Ina.
