Wm. H. Metcalf, of 212 Division street, Milwaukee, had made the proposition to the officers of the Milwaukee museum of fine arts for the state of Wisconsin that he and his wife will erect a building for the use of the association, at a cost at not less than $50,000, as a memorial to their daughter, Mary, who died in 1864, at the age of fifteen years. Accompanying the offer will be three conditions: That a piece of ground of suitable size and of suitable locality be furnished; that the name of Metcalf be substituted for Milwaukee in the title of the association: and that Mr. Metcalf says three years will elapse in all probability before the building is completed. The officers of the association will call a meeting in the near future to take action upon the proposition, and if it is accepted with the conditions, immediate steps will be taken toward the selection of a site and plans for the structure.
