Garfield, Moses A. (1819 - 22 Aug. 1883)
Garfield - In the town of Pine Valley, Clark County, Wis., Aug. 22, 1883, Mr. Moses A. Garfield, aged 64 years, 8 months and 3 days.
Mr. Garfield was born in Essex Co., New York. At the age of eighteen he removed with his parents to Portage County, Ohio. In 1841 he married Miss Hannah M. Tousley, who still survives him. At an early day he settled at Rubican, Wis., and finally moved to Clark County where he spent the remainder of his days. By his long residence here he had become one of the oldest, as well as one of the most respected of our citizens.
That much dreaded disease consumption wrought its result slowly but surely. Long and patiently did the sufferer await his relief from suffering. Patiently and long did kind friends minister to him for whom they felt they could not do enough. Friends from a distance also hastened to lend their aid during the last days of his life. Four sons and three daughters, with nine grandchildren, remain to mourn the loss of one who as true and faithful in all the relations of life. Mr. Garfield was highly esteemed also by a large circle of neighbors and friends. Peaceful in his disposition, and benevolent in his impulses, he made friends and kept them. Thus peacefully and joyfully did a friend, a husband and a father pass away. His funeral was largely attended from the Presbyterian Church in Neillsville on Friday, Aug. 24th.
