Burt, Reuel (17 Aug. 1811 - 17 March 1884)
Mr. Reuel Burt was born in Essex County, N. Y., August 17, 1811. Died at his home in Neillsville, Wis., March 17, 18884, at the age of 72 years and 7 months.
In 1836 he married Miss Jane Rogers, a very worthy lady, the mother of his five children, three of whom are here, and Mrs. R. Schofield, of Arizona, and Mrs. F. S. Turney, of Plankinton, Dakota. He made a very pleasant home in St. Lawrence County, New York, where he lived with his family 31 years, when the circle was broken by the death of his wife. He then came here and in two years married Mrs. Laura Wilkins, who has been a very devoted wife, and still survives him.
He would have his difficulties and misunderstandings, yet at times his heart was full of generous impulses, possessed a real good heartedness and neighborly kindness. He loved his children and was especially fond of grandchildren. He enjoyed religious services and believed in a Merciful God. His funeral was held at the M. E. Church on 19 inst. Rev. J. D. Brothers officiating.
No father we ill not weep, Though we may greet thee here no more; They form, now stilled in death’s cold sleep, the grave a sacred trust shall keep, *Rest cut off. ***
