Wells, James Rev. (1790? - 18 March 1884)

Wells - At his home in Parsons, Kan., March 18, 1884, Rev. James Wells, father of Alderman O. P. Wells, and grandfather of Willie Wells, of this city, aged 94 years.

The sad news did not reach the relatives here until a few days since. The deceased was an honored and highly respected citizen in the community where he lived. For over forty years he had been a devoted bearer of the cross and a constant worker in the Master’s vineyard, one of those noble men of earth, who made the world better by his having lived. He lived long beyond the allotted three score years and then, and during all this time was an earnest, faithful, exemplary Christian man, true to his God, and ever faithful in all his relations of life. He was a kind husband, and affectionate father, and a true friend. He passed peacefully away, just at the close of a Sabbath day, and just ere the spirit had passed into the heavenly land to its final reward, he closed his eyes and uttered that one words so dear and pleasant to every true Christian, "rest." Yes, rest, father, rest, and sleep that endless sleep, which to you will be as peaceful as your life was good and useful. You have passed through death’s dark portal to the merited throne beyond and have become immortal.
