Stroszkowski, Bruno (? - 4 JUL 1936)
Bruno Stroszkowski, a resident of Taylor County, was instantly killed about 1 a.m. July 4th, 1936, by being struck by an automobile driven by Wesley Stookey, a young man residing at Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.). The accident occurred just three-fourths of a mile north of Thorp. Clark County Coroner P.C. Ludovic was immediately notified and he viewed the scene of the accident soon after it occurred. An inquest was held at 1 p.m. on July 4th. The testimony disclosed that the deceased was walking on the highway at the time he was struck, there was no evidence that the driver of the death car was intoxicated or that he was driving in a reckless or careless manner. Mr. Stookey testified that he was blinded by the lights on an on coming car and that his vision was further obscured by dust.
The Coroner’s jury returned a verdict of accidental death. District Attorney John M. Peterson, besides being present at the inquest, made a personal investigation of the circumstances surrounding the accident, and later stated that there appeared to be no criminal liability for the death. Mr. Peterson stated further that every death attributed to any highway accident is being thoroughly investigated with a view of fixing the blame and responsibility for the same and that prosecutions would follow if the circumstances warranted such action, all with a view of cutting down terrible toll of lives taken by highway accidents.
