Hickman, Fancisca (27 AUG 1866 - 23 AUG 1936)

Mrs. Joseph Hickman passed away at 7:45 a.m. Aug. 23rd, 1936, at her home in this village (Thorp, Clark Co., Wis.). She had attained the age of 69 years, 11 months and 27 days.

Francisca Meyer was born in the town of Schleswig, Manitowoc Co., Aug. 17, 1866, where she grew into womanhood. On Dec. 2, 1885, she was united in marriage to Joseph Hickman of the town of Meeme. To this union were born four children, three of whom, with Mr. Hickman, mourn her loss. They are: John of Thorp, Mrs. Katherine Bradle of Reseburg, and William of Reseburg. Also five grandchildren and two brothers, Geo. Meyer of Reseburg and Joseph Meyer of Mead.

They came to Thorp with their family May 6th, 1890. In 1899 they moved onto a farm located in the town of Reseburg. As pioneers they watched the community develop from a veritable wilderness into the thriving community of today. In the spring of 1928 they returned to the village of Thorp, which was her home up to the time of her death.

Mrs. Hickman was a devoted wife and mother, a good neighbor and a friend to depend upon. Probably no other person in this community was better known or had more friends, and her loss will be felt not only by her own family, but by everyone who knew her.

The funeral services were conducted from St. Bernard’s Church on Wednesday morning, Rev. A.M. Muckerheide officiating, interment following in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.

May she rest in everlasting peace.

The pallbearers were: Stanley Mazurek, Theo. Broeren, Jacob Smith, Thomas Vander Wegen, Anton Velcheck and John Roth.
