Verna Grieser, 74, Auburndale, formerly of Spencer, died Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at House of the Dove, Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 11, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, North Spencer. The Rev. Rebekah Tarras officiated. Burial was in West Spencer Cemetery.
Verna Elaine Gilbertson was born July 30, 1932, in Chandler, Minn., to John and Mamie (nee Jacobs) Gilbertson. She went to Chandler area schools. She married J. Richard Grieser Nov. 1, 1948, in Sioux Falls, S.D. He died Aug. 1, 1989. They farmed in Lake Wilson, Minn. until moving to Wisconsin in 1958. They farmed near Spencer until moving to Unity. They owned and operated the Country Inn Supper Club until retiring due to her husband’s ill health. She loved cooking and baking, traveling and getting together with family and friends. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, North Spencer.
Survivors include her children, Robert Grieser, Wausau, David (Linda) Grieser, Spencer, Sandra (Michael) Miller, Auburndale, and James (Becky) Grieser, Northfield, Minn.; her grandchildren, Brett Grieser, Carrie (Grieser) Wagner, Christopher Grieser, Joseph Miller, Joshua Grieser, Jacob Miller, Matthew Grieser, Leah Miller, Emily Grieser, and Benjamin Grieser; her great-grandchildren, Samuel Grieser, Riley, Isabella Grieser, Kassidy Wolfe, and Luke Wolfe; her sisters and brother, Mildred Kooiman, Livingston, Texas, Roland (Joyce) Gilbertson, Hood River, Ore., and Leona Smith, North St. Paul, Minn.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; one daughter, Diane; four brothers, Robert, Gerald, Harold, and Howard Gilbertson; five sisters, Frances Kooiman, Ruby Beers, Shirley Gilbertson, Edith Gilbertson, and Erma Johnson.
Maurina/Community Funeral Home, Spencer, assisted the family with arrangements.
