Shook, John Robert (21 Oct 1927 - 4 Jun 2007)

John Shook, 79, Owen, died on Monday, June 4th, 2007, at the Memorial Health Center in Medford.

Visitation with family and friends will be Thursday, June 7th at 2007, at the Maurina Funeral Home in Abbotsford from 4 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services for John, affectionately called "Jack," will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 8th, 2007 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Owen, with Father Paul Gitter presiding. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Graveside services will be on Saturday, June 9th, 2007, with interment in Pine Hill Cemetery in Curtiss at 1:00 p.m. with military honors by the Van Huizen-Frits American Legion Post #123.

John Robert Shook was born October 21st, 1927 in Chicago, the son of Harry and Ada (Sattler) Shook. He received his early education in Chicago.

He then joined the US Naval Service - Coast Guards from 1944 to 1946. John received the Asiatic-Pacific and WWII Victory medals.

With his honorable discharge, John was employed with the Chicago Police Department and as an Engineer with the Chicago Board of Education.

John and Patricia Dillon were united in Marriage on September 20th, 1958, in Chicago. Patricia died on September 16th, 2001.

In 1971, John and Patricia purchased a summer home in Owen and retired in 1986. John was an outdoorsman and enjoyed range shooting, motorcycling, hunting, fishing, waterskiing, boating and scuba diving.

John is survived by his children, Susan (Dean) Ackerman of Owen, Patti Shook of Abbotsford, Beth Hopfensperger of Marshfield, and John (Barb) Cameron Shook of Ladson SC; his grandchildren, Sarah Trush, Troy Hopfensperger, Lily and Grace Ackerman, Devin, Cameron and Madigan Shook and one great-granddaughter, Hanna Trush.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Patricia, one son Michael Shook and one sister, Frances Languth.
