Copeland, Augusta A. (28 MAR 1878 - 6 MAY 1936)

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Peace Evangelical Church for Mrs. William Copeland Sr. who passed away at her home in the village (Dorchester, Clark Co., Wis.) Wednesday evening at 6:30 o’clock following a two year illness from cancer. The services were conducted by the rev. J.R. Kalwitz at the family home at 1:30 and at the church at 2:00.

Interment was made at the Memorial Cemetery with six nephews, Al Boyer, Appleton, Wayne Flentie, Stevens Point, Louis Hamel, Arpin, and Elroy Broeske, Ole Hanson and Lloyd Carlson, acting as pallbearers. Flower girls were Lorraine Hanson, Dorothy Broeske, Arlene Violand and Dorothy Boxrucker.

Augusta Amelia Flentie was born at Arlington Heights, Ill., March 28, 1878 and was 58 years, 1 month and 1 day old at time of death. With her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Flentie, she came to Dorchester in the early fall of 1897 and on Nov. 10 of the same year she was married to William Copeland Sr. Following their marriage they lived on their farm 2 ½ miles southwest of the village for three years, then moving to Dorchester for six years. Spending the past sixteen years in Dorchester, Five children were born to them, one son, Elmer, dying in infancy.

Always interested in church work, Mrs. Copeland always took an active interest in the Peace Evangelical Church were she was organist for sixteen years. She was also a member of the Women’s Union. Her devotion was not excluded to church work for her happiest years were spent at home, caring for her family who will greatly miss a mother’s earnest counsel and loving care. She also leaves a large circle of friends who join with us in offering deepest sympathy to her family.

She is survived by her husband, her father, Conrad Flentie, Dorchester, one daughter, Mrs. Sylvester Jensen, Abbotsford; three sons, Raymond of Stevens Point, Gilbert of Edgar, and William Jr. of Dorchester, Wis. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. M. G. Hamel of Arpin, and Mrs. G.H. Broeske of Dorchester, two brothers, Arnold Flentie of Appleton and Ernest Flentie of Stevens Point, and thirteen grandchildren.

Among those attending the services were Henry Flentie and son, Arthur, of Park Ridge, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. William Kuen and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kuen of Brownsville; Mrs. William Wolters and Mrs. John Reiter of Des Plaines, Ill.; Vernon Kuen of Fond du Lac; Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Flentie of Appleton; Mr. and Mrs. M.G. Hamel and son, Paul, Louis and Lyle, of Arpin; Mr. and Mrs. Immanuel Romang Sr., and sons, Immanuel and Donald, of Athens; Miss Olga Yessa of Wurtzburg; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Copeland of Stevens Point; Mrs. Alex Ireland, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Jensen, and Mr. and Mrs. Ole Hanson of Abbotsford, Wis.
