Chapman, Joseph (30 Nov. 1846 - Mar. 1932)
Funeral services were held Thursday at Lac du Flambeau, 86, Civil War veteran and one of the first settlers in the town of Unity, who died at Rib Lake. Burial was made at Lac du Flambeau.
Mr. Chapman, who was born Nov. 30, 1846, at Catherine, Canada, accompanied his parents in 1858 to Jefferson county, Wis., where he enlisted in 1862 in Company K, 29th Wisconsin Volunteers. He was assigned to the First Brigade and participated in 14 major battles. After receiving his discharge in 1865 he came to Clark county and in 1867, settled on a farm in the town of Unity. He was married Nov. 4, 1874, to Louise Fisher.
Surviving are eight children, 24 grand children and a brother, James A. Chapman, who still resides on the old homestead in the town of Unity.
