Belter, Fred #2 (25 FEB 1862 - 16 NOV 1898)
Mr. Fred Belter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ladwig Belter, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 1898, at his mother’s residence at Globe (Clark Co., Wis.), after an illness of two or three months. He was 34 years of age. He leaves a mother and brother at home, and a sister, Mrs. John Weidner of Neillsville, Wis. The funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Ackerman Schoolhouse, Rev. Longenecker officiating. The body was interred in the Mound Cemetery (North Pine Valley).
Additional Note by Steve Belter seb@wintek.com
The obituary contains a couple
of mistakes, but I don't know if they are
transcription typos or if the
mistakes were in the original newspaper. If
the mistakes were in the
newspaper, then it is probably best to copy them
as is.
1. Fred's father's first name was "Ludwig" (on several documents), not
"Ladwig".
2. I'm wondering if the birth year is correct or if the age is correct.
The obituary says he was 34, but the dates calculate to 36. He was 14
when he immigrated in 1878 (implies birth year of 1864); but the 1880
census says he was 18 (implies the birth year was 1862).
