Stearns, Gustavus (2 May 1831 - 1885)
Sterns - In this city, Aug 6th, of Typhoid Fever, after an illness of three weeks, Gustavus Stearns aged 52 years.
Gustavus Sterns was born May 2, 1831, in Sweden. He came to the United States in 1852, and returned to his native country in the fall of 1854, where he was married to Miss Charlotte Medin, when he again came to America. He settled in Clark County in the fall of 1856, and was a resident here from that time until his death.
The deceased was prominently identified with the manufacturing interests of Neillsville, having established a planning mill several years ago, and afterward the present stave and heading factory on the North Side. He was extremely industries and strictly honest - an excellent and respected neighbor, and although unpretentious and unassuming, his kind, neighborly ways had won the respect of all his acquaintances, and he will be greatly missed from the business and social walks of life.
He leaves a wife, three sons and a daughter to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father. The funeral was held from the residence on Sunday, August 9th, Rev. W. T. Hendren officiating.
*Note in the original obituary surname is printed as Sterns; cemetery has Stearns.
