McCarthy, Joe (1878? - 24 OCT 1899)
Joe McCarthy, whose home is in this city (Neillsville, Clark Co., Wis.), was killed between Greenwood and Fairchild Tuesday on the Foster Road. He slipped and fell between the cars on a gravel train. He was a young man of industrious habits and held in high esteem by a large circle of friends. He was 21 years old, son of Mrs. Wm. Babcock of the north side, who came here recently from Pittsville. Otto Neverman went up with a team and brought the remains down Tuesday night. The remains were taken to Mauston Wednesday for interment.
