Meyers, Caroline (1831 - Dec. 1933)
Mrs. Caroline Meyers, age 102 years, formerly of Abbotsford, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Anna Breitengross, at Phillips. Funeral services were held at the Breitengross home Friday afternoon, Dec. 15th. Permanent burial will be at Weyauwega in spring.
Mrs. Meyers was born in 1831 in Germany and came to America at the age of fifteen years, locating in New York City where she was married to Martin Meyers. The family moved to Wisconsin before the advent of the railroad and traveled by boat to Gill’s landing, settling on a farm near Weyauwega. Miss Meyers was a practical nurse for many years at Marshfield, Abbotsford and Phillips and cared for the first white child born at Phillips. Mr. Meyers died thirty years ago after which she lived with her daughters at Phillips. On her hundredth birthday anniversary she traveled by automobile from Phillips to Oak Center. Until a year ago she read considerably and she enjoyed good health until a week preceding her death. She arose daily and assisted with the light housekeeping. Of her eight children, four survive, Mrs. Anna Breitengross and Mrs. Margaret Thompson of Phillips, A. J. Meyers of Abbotsford and George Meyers of Spokane.
