A Complete Surprise
If ever there was a man completely surprised it was Will G. Klopf last Sunday evening. Will was 28 years old that day, and he with his family resolved to spend the day with his father and mother in the second ward. A few of his friends, knowing it was Will’s birthday, inaugurated a scheme to give him a grand surprise. The victim was retained at his father’s until about 8 o’clock, by which time over sixty friends had gathered at Will’s fine residence on the North Side. On his return home, when he saw his whole house brilliantly lighted, he thought a fire had broken out, and leaving his wife and children he started on a run for his supposed burning residence, and when he discovered what was "in the wind," he was completely done for. A most enjoyable evening followed the surprise, including a serenade by the Neillsville Band. The festivities closed with the best wishes of the guests for host and hostess, and if Will lives to be one hundred years old he will remember the occasion as one of the brightest of his life.
