Melody, Matilda (1874? - 7 Oct. 1934)

Mrs. Herbert Warner Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Warner Jr., of Plum Lake visited relatives at Cherokee, Wisconsin on Friday enroute to their home from Tingley, Iowa, where they had gone earlier in the week to attend the funeral of Mrs. Warner, Sr.’s sister, Mrs. Martin Melody.

Mrs. Melody, who before her first marriage to John LePage, was Miss Matilda Rein and came to Cherokee more than fifty years ago with her mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Fricke. She made her home at Superior and Minneapolis for many years and some years after the death of Mr. LePage she married Martin Melody of Tingley, Iowa. On Sunday, October 7th, she and her husband celebrated their fifteenth wedding anniversary and, the next morning, while getting ready to go to the dentists, she died instantly from a heart attack.

Funeral services were held at Tingley on Wednesday and the body was taken to Streeter, Illinois, for burial on the Melody family lot.

The deceased was well known at Cherokee having spent her girlhood in the community and making frequent visits here, the last being about a year ago. Besides her widower, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. J. M. Lea of Chicago, two brothers, George and Henry Rein of Cherokee, two half-sisters, Mrs. Herbert Warner, Sr., of Plum Lake, and Mrs. Harry Demand of Abbotsford, and two half-brothers, Fred and Ed. Fricke, both of the town of Hull.

*** Note: Mrs. Melody’s estimated year of birth is from the 1930 Federal Census - Tingley, Ringold County, Iowa.
