Smith, Robert (3 Sept. 1905 - 8 Mar. 1935)
Robert Smith, age nineteen, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Smith of the town of Hull, Wisconsin died at the agricultural student infirmary at Madison Friday afternoon at 3:00 o’clock, pneumonia being the cause of his departure. He graduated from the Colby, Wis. High school two years ago, and, at the time of his death, was attending the agricultural short course at the Wisconsin college of agriculture. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal church at Unity Tuesday afternoon, Rev. C. Paul Nulton officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. The pall bearers were Wayne Davis, Roland Brehm, Calvin Cook, Everett Kapes, Elred Cutts and N. Cutts.
The deceased was born September 3, 1905, in Chicago, Illinois and came to the farm when a mere infant with his parents. He is survived by his parents and by two brothers, Stanley and Carl, who are employed on a fox ranch in northern Minnesota. Also an aged grand-mother, Mrs. Emma Hobbs. He completed his tenth year in 4-H club work last fall as a member of the Colby Agricultural club. He followed dairy, pig, poultry and sheep projects and carried on a farm accounting project last year. In 1930 he was the first in the stock judging contest at the Wisconsin Valley Fair and Exposition and in 1931 he was a champion poultry club member, in addition to which he won various other honors in poultry club work.
