Williams, Ely (4 Sep 1840 - 12 Jun 1900)
Ely Williams, one of the oldest resident of
the town of Grant, Clark County, died at his home in that town
Tuesday, June 12, 1900. Mr. Williams was born in Ohio Sept. 4, 1840
and came to Grant in 1856. He was a man of intelligence and took a
keen interest in education and current events. For many years he
was district clerk and at the time of his death was postmaster of
Granton, though for the past few months his health had not allowed
of his giving much time to the duties of the office. While not
living to an advanced age, Mr. Williams came of a long lived race,
his father living to be one hundred years of age and his mother,
eighty-four.
Ely Williams was married in 1883 to Annie Crevecouer, who with four
daughters survive him. The funeral was held Thursday, Rev. G. W.
Longenecker officiating. A number of friends of the deceased went
from Neillsville to attend the funeral.
