Rude, Oscar (12 OCT 1879 - 19 AUG 1900)

Oscar, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Rude, died Sunday, Aug. 19th, 1900, at noon, of dropsy of the heart, and was buried Thursday at 10 a.m., Rev. G.W. Longenecker officiating, and a detail of militiamen from Co. A, detailed from Camp Douglas for the purpose, attending as pallbearers. There were: Sgt. O. Stevens; Corp. Will Huntley; Privates Sam Crandall, Will Tragsdorf, Frank Ruddock, Wm. Southard, Hal Kemery, Chas. Pool and Bert Wells. Burial was in the Neillsville Cemetery. Oscar’s age was 20 years, 10 months and 7 days. He leaves the father and mother, two brothers and two sisters to mourn his loss.

Oscar was a model young man and everybody liked him. He was a member of Co. A, and his last sickness was caused by camping on the range here. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American war, and was at Puerto Rico when Spain capitulated. Since the war he took a trip to California with the Eilert folks, working at Fresno. His death is universally mourned.

The parents have been made deeply grateful for the assistance rendered and flowers given by sympathetic friends, and wish their thanks expressed for the same.
