Nelson, Charles (26 May 1863 - 12 Jan. 1955)
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Swarthout Funeral Home, Spencer, for Charles Nelson, 91, who died Wednesday morning at Mt. View Sanitorium, Wausau. The Rev. Claude Vander Stoep, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Unity, officiated at the service and burial was made in the Swedish Lutheran cemetery, Unity.
Mrs. Henry Binning, Mrs. J. A. Olson, Mrs. George Miller, Sr., and Mrs. Ansel Messer sang "Rock of Ages" and "It Is Well With My Soul."
Pallbearers were Victor Anderson, Elmer Helsten, Walter Anderson, Ed Melander, Maurice Anderson and Anton Schjonneman.
Mr. Nelson was born May 26, 1863, in Sweden. After retiring from farming in this area, he made his home at the Marathon County Home and Hospital. On September 10, after an X-ray showed he was suffering from a lung infection, he was taken to the Sanitorium. About a month ago he suffered a hip fracture.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Tillie Thuman, Isatca, Ill., a son, Carl Nelson, Milwaukee, a stepson, George Hahney, Rib Lake; and two grandchildren.
Besides the above relatives, local area friends attended the funeral.
