Hinker, Jerome Edward #2 (31 Mar. 1934 - 30 Oct. 2002)
Greenwood - Jerome Edward Hinker, 68, of Greenwood, died Tuesday,
Oct. 30, 2002, in the Palliative Care Unit of Saint Joseph's
Hospital, Marshfield.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at St.
Mary's Catholic Church, Greenwood, with the Rev. Joseph Follmar
officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bob Gregorich,
Pete Bogdonovich, Arnie Kappus, Ron Brennhofer, George Graunke, Jeff Hoeper, Ralph
Landini and Floyd Plautz.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at St.
Mary's Catholic Church with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and a Knights
of Columbus rosary at 7:15 p.m. Visitation will also be held from 9 a.m. until service
time Saturday at the church.
Jerome Edward Hinker was born March 31, 1934, the son of Sylvester and Barbara (Pink)
Hinker in Greenwood. He was a 1952 graduate of Greenwood High School.
He worked for the Cooperative Feed Mill in Greenwood from 1953-1954 and Grassland Dairy
from 1954-1955. He then entered the U.S. Army and served his country in Germany from
1955-1957. Following his honorable discharge, Jerry worked at the A. O. Smith Factory
in Milwaukee until 1958.
On Sept. 16, 1961, Jerome and Marlene Loos were united in marriage at St.
Anthony's Catholic Church in Loyal. Following their marriage, Jerry
drove gas truck for Cooperative Services in Greenwood until 1975.
He was a salesman for Midland-Universal Dairy from 1975-1980 and returned as a manager
to Cooperative Services for the next 15 years. He had worked with Landini Auction and
Realty services since 1990 and had driven bus for the Greenwood School District since
1996.
He had been a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1962, was a Greenwood area
volunteer fireman for 35 and served as their chief for 10 years. He was a part-time
policeman for 18 years and was an EMT and ambulance driver for 21 years. He greatly
enjoyed golfing, fishing, deer hunting, bowling, making birdhouses and being a grandpa!
He loved ball games and was a member and past president of the Softball Associaton.
Jerry was a devoted Greenwood High School fan, and religiously followed his
grandchildren in their sports. He was currently serving on the board for the Greenwood
Industrial Development Corporation. He was also a very active member of St.
Mary's Catholic Church in Greenwood.
Jerry will be sadly missed by his wife of 41 years; Marlene Hinker of Greenwood; his
children, Roxanne Hinker of Greenwood, Randy (Gina) of Greenwood, David (Judy) of
Greenwood, Dean (Kris) of Greenwood, Kevin of Oregon, Wis., and Kent (Wendy) of
Greenwood; 11 grandchildren, Derek, Dustin, Jamie, Kade, Halle, Hayden, Kole, Kena,
Morgan, Lexi and Brooke.
He is further survived by his sister, JoAnn (Lester) Kaiser of Stratford; his brothers,
Gene (Marilyn) of Loyal, Ronald (Audrey) of Wausau, Jim (Carolyn) of Greenwood, Francis
(Corrine) of Marshfield, Allen (Sandra), Robert (Donna) and Bill, all of Greenwood; a
sister-in-law, Sharon Hinker of Cape May, N.J.; many nieces and nephews, other
relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Larry Hinker.
Cuddie Funeral Home of Greenwood is assisting the family with arrangements.
