Locals

Mr. and Mrs. William Happe, Jr., of the town of Fremont, visited with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Albrecth, here Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Happe had just received a letter from their daughter, Miss Rowene, a sophomore at Stout Institute, stating that she had won a membership in PHI Upsilon Omeiron, a national honorary society in home economics. Since this is the highest honor that can be achieved by a stout student, the young woman was overjoyed with the accomplishment.

Dr. and Mrs. F. W. Druse of Milwaukee arrived here Friday night to spend the weekend with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Harvey. The Harveys and their guests and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harvey were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wells F. Harvey at the Merchants Hotel Saturday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Merle Dokken, of Madison, Joe Palmer, Milwaukee, and Miss Ginger Nelson, Stevens Point, were weekend guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Palmer. The occasion for the gathering being Joe Palmer’s birthday.

Mr. and Mrs. Homer Ralph and two of their sons, Joe and Teddy, Platteville spent the weekend with friends in Neillsville and at Pleasant Ridge. The two boys were guests at Dannie Patey.

Mrs. Werner Mattson and daughter, Donna Mae, who spent several months with relatives here, left Saturday for their home in Milwaukee. Her mother, sister, Mrs. Henry Markwardt and brother, Fred Appleyard, took them to Eau Claire, the balance of the trip being made on the 400.

Will Ruchaber drove to Fond du Lac Sunday to get his wife who spent several days there with her mother and other relatives. He was accompanied by Mrs. A. L. Devos and Mrs. Amelia Clouse, the latter spending the day with her daughter, Miss Gertrude, a supervisory nurse, who headquarters are in Fond du Lac. Mr. Devos, who had been in Milwaukee, met his wife there, the entire group returning home Sunday evening.

Mrs. Fred Stelloh, who had been visiting her daughter and family and her son, and wife in Milwaukee, was taken ill there. Mr. Stelloh brought his wife home last Wednesday where she is recovering form a bronchial infection.

Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Lanam have rented their farm east of the city to Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Schnabel for the coming year. Mr. and Mrs. Lanam left Sunday for Augusta, where they will live with their daughter, Mrs. Cecil Bennett, and family, who drove over to get them. The Lanams have reserved rooms in their spacious farm home so they can return to the farm now and then if they so desire.

Lieut. Mack Fradette, who spent a week here with his family and other relatives, left Saturday on the return trip to Massachusetts. He was accompanied by his sister, Mrs. Earl Darling, and Mrs. Allen Zschernitz, who will visit their husbands.

Captain and Mrs. Archie Van Gordon arrived Friday from Fort Devens, Mass. Mrs. Van Gordon will remain here with her family. [*Portion cut off here.]

Sunday for her home in Chicago after a week’s visit here with her mother, Mrs. Mary Mac Pherson.

Mrs. Everett Pepper and children are planning to move here from Manhattan, Ill., in the near future. They will occupy the house on Court Street which belonged to her mother, the late Mrs. Grace Rowe. Mr. Pepper is employed at Joliet, Ill., where living quarters are limited.

Mrs. Harland Kintzele returned to the Rochester clinic last Wednesday for further surgery, undergoing an operation Thursday morning. Mr. Kintzele was with her.

Mrs. Louis Zipfel went home with her daughter, Mrs. Adolph Meyer, of the town of Grant, Saturday. Mrs. Zipfel had been here with her mother during her illness.
