Seldon, Eva B. (3 JUN 1854 - 4 JUL 1938)
Died, at her home in our village (Thorp, Clark Co., Wis.), at 12:30 o’clock Monday afternoon, July 4th, 1938, Mrs. W.B. Seldon, aged eighty-four years.
Death came as a relief to her after suffering from an injury to her hip seven years ago. At that time she spent many weeks in the hospital, never regaining the use of her legs upon her return. Since then she has been in the care of her daughter, Mrs. Thos. Vander Wegen. About five weeks ago she again fell, injuring her hip and suffering intense pain, she failed fast.
Eva Blanche Wright was born on June 3, 1854, at Hamlet, New York. She came to Thorp with her husband, Dr. W.B. Seldon, a physician, in 1881. Dr. Seldon maintained his practice here until his death in August 1910. As the wife of a pioneer community doctor, Mrs. Seldon will long be remembered, for her life’s journey was a path marked with deeds of kindness and cheer. Flowers, not thorns, sunshine, not shadow, did she scatter everywhere. Her patience and fortitude during the trials of the past years of her life, are unequalled. Her pleasures were divided between the loving care of her daughters and grandchildren and the visits of old friends and neighbors.
Surviving relatives are two sons, Leslie and Irvin of British Columbia, Canada, two daughters, Mrs. Leo (Iva) Korrer of Fond du Lac, and Mrs. Thos. (Florence) Vander Wegen of Thorp.
Funeral services were held at the Bogumill Funeral Home on Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock, Rev. Carl Berry officiating. She was laid to rest in the family lot in the East Thorp Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Victor Soli, J.E. Lund, John Hickman, R.J Brunner, Wm. E. Barrett and Isaac Sisco.
