Mais, Margaret (13 Dec. 1855 - 8 May 1936)

Mrs. Stephen Mais, a resident of Clark county for fifty-three years, passed on to the distant shore Friday evening, May 8th, at 6:24 P.M., complications of diseases of five days duration being the cause of her death. Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s church Monday morning, Rev. L. J. Lang officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. The pall bearers were Nick Baer, Edward Becker, Louis Frane, Victor Frane, John Schlimm and Arnold Stroota. Those in charge of flowers were Mrs. A. M. Bauers, Mrs. C. Joe Kraus and Mrs. Emil Pokallus and Mrs. John Schlimm.

The deceased was born at Two Rivers, December 13, 1855, thus reaching the age of eighty years, four months and twenty-four days. Her maiden name was Margaret Harry and she was married to Stephen Mais at Two Rivers September 7th, 1873. They came to the town of Unity fifty-three years ago and lived on a farm until twenty-five years ago when they moved to Colby. This union was blessed with four children - John, who passed away about nine months ago, Mrs. H. J. Welsch of Colby, Mrs. Chas. Frome of Manitowoc and Paul J. Mais of Unity. She is also survived by her widower, thirteen grand children and eight great grand children and one brother, Fred Harry, of Chippewa Falls.

Out of town people here for the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Celey Currant and Joe Engelking of Phillips, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Engelking of Sanbourn, Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Gloe, Fred Westfahl and Mrs. Mary Taddy of Two Rivers, Mabelle, Geraldine and Lucille Mais of Medford, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Cox and sons, Dennis and Terry, Mr. and Mrs. John Collins and daughters, Patricia Ann and Therese, Marie and Hubert Mais of Chicago, Fred, Harry and Lester Kamp of Chippewa Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Frome of Manitowoc and Paul Mais and Miss Beatrice Mais of Unity.

The deceased was a faithful member of St. Mary’s congregation and the Christian Mother’s Society. Her Christian life was beautiful from the beginning to its close for she was always ready to lend a helping hand whenever needed. After a long, busy and useful life she died as she lived - honored, trusted and loved.
