Locals

Mrs. Margaret Farrand, Addie Jean and William, and William Schmitz, Milwaukee and Miss Hilda Kurth spent the weekend at the Lac du Flambeau and other points in the northern part of the state.

Mrs. W. B. Tufts left Friday for Tripoli to spend a short time with her sister-in-law, Mrs. Ferne Kidd, and family, planning to go on from there to Bayfield and Duluth.

Mrs. William West was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire, last week where she underwent a major operation. Her daughter, Mrs. Roy Charland of Chippewa falls makes daily trips to the hospital to see her mother.

Mrs. Walter Weaver left last Wednesday for Neenah where she attended the funeral of her grandfather.

Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Sievert of Stevens Point visited with her mother, Mrs. John Wasserberger over the weekend.

Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Borde and children left Friday morning for Elgin, Ill., to spend the weekend with his sister, Mrs. John Buehler and family.

Miss Theola Pagenkopf and a friend, Miss Arlene Raymond, returned to Chicago the first of the week after a week’s visit in the home of the former’s father, John Pagenkopf.

Miss Shirley Peterson was home from Madison for the weekend.

Misses Deloris Rose and Ruth Turner left Friday night for Hatfield to spend a week at a cottage at Lake Arbutus.

Mrs. Martha Frantz returned home from Milwaukee last week, bringing with her a friend, Mrs. Elizabeth Golke, and her grandson, Raymond Curtis, of that city for a visit of a couple of weeks.

Mr. and Mrs. Oluf Olson, Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Philip Wieden and children of Marshfield were Independence day visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Oluf Olson, Sr. Mr. and Mrs. Wieden and children returned that day, and the younger Olson’s remained at the home of his parents until Monday morning. Also at the Olson home over the July Four weekend was Mrs. Ellen Johnson, a daughter, who is attending summer classes at Stevens Point State Teachers college.

Mesdames Clara Winkes, Daisy Dahnert and Georgia Holte and Miss Josie Bass spent Saturday at the Dwyer cottage in the Allison addition, town of the Dewhurst, as guests of Mrs. Julia Dwyer. While there, they were surprised by Mrs. Edith Grow, who with her son-in-law and daughter, John Miller, Jr., and wife and his father, all of Milwaukee, are camping at the Lastofka Cottage at Lake Arbutus. Mrs. Grow also will spend several days as a house guest of Miss Josie Bass.

Robert McCalby and Mrs. Peter Miller and her husband and their son of St. Paul called on Miss Josie Bass and other relatives here Sunday. Robert and Mrs. Miller are children of Mr. and Mrs. Ross McCalvy, formerly of Neillsville, Wis.

Kenneth Olsen went to St. Paul, Minn., on business Tuesday. He and Mrs. Olson spent two days there the latter part of last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Francis Woodward arrived here from Chicago Friday to spend eight or nine days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Woodward and with other **[a portion cut off here, starting in the next column.]

Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Marquardt and son, John, were expected to return to Neillsville Wednesday night from Thief River Falls, where they visited Mrs. Marquardt’s parents, Dr. and Mrs. H. J. Rice. Mrs. Marquart and John spent three weeks there, while Mr. Marquardt was there over the holidays.

Mrs. Evelyn Teatro and son, John, of Chicago are spending the summer vacation here with friends, being house guests of Mrs. Esther Green. Mrs. Teatro is the former Miss Evelyn Ayers.

Mr. and Mrs. Otto Gorski, and son, Billie, and grandson Edward Gorski, Jr., all of Chicago arrived Saturday afternoon to visit Mr. and Mrs. John Epding until Tuesday.

Mrs. Anna K. Nelson arrived on the bus Friday from St. Paul to spend the weekend with her daughter, Mrs. O. Asp, and family, returning Sunday arriving. Waldo Asp who spent three weeks with his relatives at St. Paul, came home with his grandmother.

The Edwin Hauge and George Prochazka families, Frank Davis and Miss Stella Davis had their annual Fourth of July picnic at the part at Marshfield Saturday, a custom which the group has followed for many years.

Mr. and Mrs. Eric Erickson and family of Merrillan and their daughter, Miss Josephine, of Madison were guests of the Arthur Epding family Sunday.

Mrs. Ralph Bauer and Miss Mary Ellen Gassen spent the weekend with their sister, Mrs. Joe Davis, and family at Wisconsin Rapids.
