Hoppen, Peter (23 Sept. 1855 - 5 Apr. 1937)

Peter Hoppen, a resident of Colby for thirty-five years, died at the home of his son, Wm. P. Hoppen, at Chicago Monday, April 5th, complications from a broken hip being the cause of his death. Funeral services were held at the Lulloff funeral parlors Wednesday afternoon, Rev. C. Paul Nulton officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were Oscar Dix, O. W. Sturner, Carl Holtzhausen, John Pribnow, Sr., C. Joe Kraus and Emil Pokallus.

The deceased was born Sept. 23, 1855, at Mishicott, Wis., and made Colby his home for about thirty-five years. The past fourteen years he lived with his sons, George and William, and the past two years with William at Chicago, who is the only surviving member of the family. Mrs. Peter Hoppen, a son, George, and a daughter, Hulda, preceded him in death.

Those attending the funeral Wednesday were Virginia Bower, Mildred Bower, Mrs. George Hoppen and two daughters, Mary and Harriett, Mrs. Joseph Walters, Walter Wagner, Mrs. Peterson, Lial Marie Babros and son, William.
