Ewan, Ervin Carl (23 Dec. 1922 - 15 Sept. 2007)

Ervin Carl Ewan, 84, Athens, died Saturday, September 15th, 2007, at Colby.

Ervin Carl Ewan was born December 23, 1922, in the town of Johnson, son of the late Henry and Emma (Kallien) Ewan. On June 8, 1946, he married Grace A. Bhend at St. John Evangelical Church, Milan. She preceded him in death October 12, 2003.

Ervin received his education at the Ladd School. His entire life was devoted to farming on the family homestead and he was also involved in raising mink. He played in a number of dance bands through the years including those of Al Horacek, Eddie Plisch, Bobbie Stork and Don Adams. For several years he played in the Athens Old Timers Band. He was a member of Christ United church, Athens, and serviced on the church council at various times. In the town of Johnson, he served as an assessor. One of his greatest enjoyments was listening to his children and grandchildren play their musical instruments and sing.

Survivors include a son, Richard (Nancy) Evan, Athens; two daughters, Suzanne (Rev. Ken) Dix, Colby and Dr. Diane (Dr. Kevin Brady)) Meyer, Chippewa Falls; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Gregory and Jamison Ewan, Katie and Lindsey Dix, Claire and Seth Meyer; two sisters, Dorothy Ramthun, Schofield, and Delores (Melvin) Schmidt, Marshfield.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother Harvey Ewan in 1982 and one sister, Lauretta Borchardt in 2006.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 21, at Christ United Church, Athens, Reverend Kenneth A. Dix will preside. Burial will be in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, town of Johnson. Friends may call on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Peterson-Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens and again on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
