Cline, Mary Janese (Marriage - 22 June 1939)

Shortly after eight o’clock Thursday, June 22, 1939, in St. Patrick’s church, Madison, the Rev. A. V. Grace read the nuptial mass and service in which Miss (Mary) Janese Cline, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. F. Cline of Madison, became the bride of Dr. John James Sazama, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Sazama of Colby. White peonies decorated the altar for the service.

As Jerome Murphy played the first strains of the bridal processional, John and Vernon Conlin, cousins of the bride and ushers, led the bridal party to the altar where the bridegroom and his brother, Dr. Frank B. Sazama, of Chippewa Falls, who was best man, stood.

The bride’s princess gown of white marquisette over taffeta was designed with tuck shirring in the bodice and a full, flowing skirt. Her finger-tip-length veil fell in soft folds and she carried a prayer book to which were fastened white streamers caught with two gardenias and the rosary which her mother had carried at her wedding. Mr. Cline gave his daughter in marriage.

Identically styled gowns of organda and tiaras of daisies were worn by Mrs. Frank B. Sazama of Chippewa Falls, sister in law of the bridegroom, who was matron of honor, and the bridesmaids, Alice and Anita Conlin, cousins of the bride.

Mrs. Sazama’s gown was peach and the bridesmaid’s were turquoise. They were fashioned with shirred bodice, full skirts and brief ruffled packets. All of the attendants carried bouquets of daisies.

For her daughter’s wedding, Mrs. Cline chose a black and printed sheer frock accented by a corsage of gardenias while Mrs. Sazama, mother of the bridegroom, attended the ceremony in a black and white print gown with a similar corsage.

A wedding breakfast was served at the Queen Christian tea room. When the couple left for a trip through Northern Wisconsin, Minnesota and Canada, the bride wore a white cotton frock with mulberry redingote and white accessories. After July 15th, Dr. Sazama and his bride will be at home in Bloomer, Wis., where he will practice medicine.

The bride, a member of Phi Mu sorority, was graduated in 1935 from the University of Wisconsin and has been a dietician at the Jackson clinic for the past two years.

Dr. Sazama, a member of Phi Chi fraternity, received his B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1935 and his M.D. degree in 1937. For the past year he has been resident surgeon at St. Anthony’s hospital at Oklahoma City, Okla.
