Schmitz, Richard "Dick" H. (3 Apr. 3 1940 - 16 June 2005)

EDGERTON - Richard Dick H. Schmitz, 65, of 579 Lake Drive Rd., died Thurs., June 16, 2005, from injuries sustained in an auto accident. He was born in Sparta on April 3, 1940, the son of Herbert and Dorothy (Fleming) Schmitz. He moved to Janesville in 1958 and Edgerton in 1996. Dick served in the US Navy on the USS Constellation Aircraft Carrier from 1962 to 1966.

He married Judith R. Grauman on Aug. 17, 1968, in Colby, WI, and had been employed by General Motors for 30 years, retiring in July of 1988. Richard also operated Schmitz's Antique Auto in Edgerton. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the UAW Local 95. He liked to fish, hunt, play golf, and fix antique vehicles.

Dick is survived by his 2 brothers, Vincent (Betty) Schmitz and Ronald (Carol) Schmitz both of Janesville; 1 sister, Donna (John) Koenig of Idaho Falls, ID; his confidante, Judith Schmitz of Janesville; sister-in-law, Merry Lou Grauman of Janesville; and 5 nieces and nephews: David Koenig, Ken Koenig, Corey Schmitz, Shelley (Scott) Olson and Rebekah Schmitz. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church , with Fr. James Kuhn officiating. Interment will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Friends may call on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 3:30 p.m. at Schneider Apfel Schneider & Schneider Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
